This Neo-Greco stone memorial from 1831, commemorates the death of the distinguished statesman & Liverpool MP William Huskisson by being run over by the Rocket locomotive at the opening of the Liverpool-Manchester Railway. The structure featured in a recent book on the politician by well-known author & journalist Simon Garfield. The memorial has recently been completely renovated, though currently has to be observed from the nearest railway bridge.
